Him: Failed Back

My husband was a construction worker. We met and married in the late 80s. We had a daughter in 2000. He got hurt at work when our daughter was a baby. After fighting with Workers’ Comp company for six years, he finally had a back fusion, to no avail. He now has failed back syndrome and a wife with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue.

Before his injury, he used to like:

  • Bowling
  • Golf
  • Hockey
  • Fishing
  • Baseball

Now he spends his days lying on the bed in a nest of pillows, sometimes on an ice pack, watching movies, reading and using the computer.

He doesn’t like:

  • Phony people
  • When women and girls cry
  • Missing out on the important moments in his daughter’s life
  • Being pitied
  • Able-bodied people who think they know what he’s going through
